About

Originally from Boulder, Colorado, Jack Lilley blends personal expression with cultural critique. He creates paintings that are at once intimate and expansive, rooted in emotion yet reflective of broader social narratives.

Educated at American University in International Relations focused on Identity, Race, Gender and Culture as well as Justice, Ethics, and Human Rights, Jack approaches painting as a form of visual anthropology, examining how memory, masculinity, and belonging shape through image and nostalgia.

His work reinterprets familiar symbols of Americana and personal history, inviting viewers to question what feels natural or constructed, how socialization has impacted their personal narratives, and the extent to which they have biases in perception. Growing up Jewish and LGBTQ+, Jack has always lived within the in-between, both inside and outside cultural spaces. That duality fuels his creative process, inspiring him to explore identity through color, texture, and reinterpretation. His art seeks to reveal the quiet contradictions that define belonging and encourages viewers to see the familiar through a more introspective, honest lens.
